A quick glance you might assume that these photographs are abandoned rooms taken somewhere perhaps in Florida. But these are actually miniature models that have been meticulously sculpted to look life-like. Anna has recreated these miniature rooms based on her memory, her imagination, and explores the connection between color and memory.
“When I try and remember a place, the colour is always crystal clear. Colour floods the memory in my mind, and this series aims to regain that fleeting image.” – Anna
The series, titled “In Search of Rainbow” are seven monochromatic room interiors that colorfully match the colors of the rainbow. All the rooms have consistent lighting with only glimpses of the landscape in the background.
“Anna Carey aims to reawaken imaginations for the viewer by creating a space of stillness, solitude and contemplation, a place for remembering days, forgetting time, for reverie, for drifting between reality and daydreams induced by colour, space and memory – for rediscovering that which is in yourself.” – Barabara Dowse curator for Artereal
